THIRD ANNUAL CRYSTAL-GROWING CONTEST Who can grow the heaviest crystal or the largest perfect crystal? Is it you? Here are the details What you grow? Students grow beautiful crystals of colourless sodium potassium tartrate, looking like cut glass with an octahedral shape (resembling an Egyptian pyramid mirrored in water). Who can enter? All students within the boundaries of School District #73 are eligible to enter, including those enrolled in public, private, first nations and alternate or virtual schools, as well as home schooled students. The cost: To enter is $20, with cheques being made out to the BIG Little Science Centre. What you get? Entrants are supplied with a kit containing: all needed materials and equipment, a student handout, and a teacher’s guide with complete instructions. How much is in a kit? Each kit contains enough material for a class of 30 students What are the categories? Each kit allows one entry per student (see categories listed below). Extra kits can be purchased to allow for more entries Who wins? Prizes will be awarded in each category and division. Categories How do I enter? Contact the BIG Little Science Centre at 554 2572 to get at copy of the official rules, a kit order form and crystal submission forms. There are a limited number of kits, so early ordering is advised. Students will have four months to grow their crystals before the submission deadline on the last day of May 2008. |
